Use Digital Multimeters to Check Amps, Ohms and Volts

A digital multimeter can be used to measure three essential features of an electrical circuit which includes the amount of electrical current flow in a circuit, the electrical potential of a device and the electrical resistance of a device. This multimeter integrates three types of testing devices into a single unit which includes the ammeter, voltmeter and the ohmmeter.

Amps can be measured with the use of an ammeter. This meter measures the amount of electrical current which flows in a circuit. To measure amps, the function switch should be set to ‘A’ point on the dial. The black lead should be connected to the terminal which is labeled as COM and the red lead should be connected to the terminal which reads as 300mA. Now attach the meter to the device which should be measured and measure the amps.

Digital Multimeters

The electrical potential of a device is measured in terms of voltage and it is measured by a voltmeter. Connect the leads and then attach the red lead to a higher potential terminal and the black lead to a terminal with lesser potential.

To measure the electrical resistance in a device, an ohmmeter is used. It measures the resistance in terms of Ohms. The ohmmeter function of the digital multimeter can be used to measure the ohm function of a circuit.
